Independent Living Specialist – Missoula Office

Summit is seeking an Independent Living Specialist for our Missoula headquarters office. The position is 30 hours per week. Beginning wage is $19-21/hour, DOE. Primary responsibilities of this position include one-on-one work with individuals to assess current needs, provide information and referral, conduct individual skills training, facilitate workshops, support individuals to secure benefits, services and community resources appropriate for their needs.  This position will also work as a team member to conduct advocacy, outreach, and public education activities. This position is based in the Missoula office (remote work is not an option).

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Conduct intake assessments and development of individual plans.
  • Provide advocacy, skills training, information and referral, transitions assistance, and peer support services to consumers to facilitate achievement of their independent living goals.
  • Research and stay current on Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid, housing programs, energy assistance, and other benefits programs to provide information and assistance to individuals to secure resources and supports appropriate for their needs.
  • Provide information and training to individuals to facilitate understanding of their rights under the ADA, Fair Housing Act, and other civil rights laws.
  • Participate in community events and public relations efforts, to include public speaking/presentations to agencies, groups, and organizations, as assigned.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documents and file management including the required input into the information database.
  • Travel as required to carry out assigned duties and responsibilities.

Requirements:

  • Combination of related education, training, and experience of a Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, education, or related field.
  • Two (2) years’ experience providing human services to people with disabilities or people with needs related to barriers to independent living.  Personal experience with disability preferred.
  • Knowledge (or ability to learn) history of disability rights, independent living philosophy and practices, and advocacy strategies.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with community partner agencies and the business community.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to manage multiple priorities and work in environment with distractions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independent of direct supervision.

Schedule:

This position is scheduled 30 hr/week and is non-exempt, compensated on an hourly basis.  It is based in  and based in Summit’s assigned office.  Remote/hybrid work is not an option.

BASE Program Facilitator

I. JOB SUMMARY:

Primary responsibilities of this position include positive role modeling to participants, assist in planning, organizing, and facilitating program activities to enhance self-confidence, interpersonal skills, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. Additionally, this position will work as a team member to facilitate classes and workshops for youth as well as other general support to staff as needed to advance civil rights of people with disabilities. This position is located in the Missoula office at BASE (remote work is not an option).

II. JOB RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Responsible to BASE Program Coordinator and Deputy Director.
  • Supervision of others: As assigned, supervise support staff, interns, or volunteers.
  • Responsible for maintaining successful relationships with management, coworkers, consumers, community representatives, and the public.
  • Expected to serve as a leader and role model to uphold Summit’s philosophy, mission, and vision; promote Summit’s programs and services; and maintain a positive community image of the organization.

III. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Program Duties:
  • Serve as role model, mentor, and proactive leader.
  • Work as a team member to organize, coordinate, promote, and facilitate classes and workshops (BALLS, YODA, Pre-ETS) as well as day-to-day programming to meet the current needs of participants.
  • Assist program participants in identifying and developing options that enhance personal growth, self-esteem, independence and community involvement. Work as a team member to coordinate services with other staff.
  • Provide information and referral (I&R) services to consumers/participants, family, and community members.
  • Advocacy, Public Education and Outreach Duties:
  • Represent Summit in a professional manner at all times.
  • Be knowledgeable about Summit’s core services, independent living philosophy, and disability culture.
  • Work as a team member to organize and conduct workshops, public forums, and other community meetings, as assigned.
  • General Duties:
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation of activities in online database, employee timecard and expense sheet, and other required documentation.
  • Attend meetings, trainings, conference sessions as scheduled.
  • Maintain consumer confidentiality.
  • Maintain regular communication with direct supervisor to discuss any problem areas, discuss new developments and report progress on program objectives.
  • Complete general office duties such as answering telephone, scheduling appointments, making copies, attending to mail, etc.
  • Travel as required to carry out assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Comply with all Summit policies and procedures.
  • NON- ESSENTIAL DUITES:

Other duties as assigned.

V.  REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education:  combination of related education, training, and experience of a Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, education, or related field.
  • Licenses, Certification, Registrations: Must be able to provide/coordinate own transportation as well as have a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance if employee uses their vehicle for work-related travel.

C. Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years’ experience providing human services to people with disabilities or people with needs related to barriers to independent living.
  • Personal experience with disability preferred.
  • Knowledge (or ability to learn) history of disability rights, independent living philosophy and practices, and advocacy strategies and techniques.
  • Knowledge of (or ability to learn) skills training components related to independent living; ability to facilitate classes and workshops for people with disabilities and other participants.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with community partner agencies and the business community. Skilled in networking and liaison activities.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities, meet project deadlines, and maintain high quality of services.
  • Knowledge of basic computer operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independent of direct supervision.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.
  • Ability to maintain consumer confidentiality.
  • Ability to meet Summit’s standard for appearance and conduct in a professional setting.

This is a flexible part-time 30hr/week non-exempt position compensated on an hourly basis. The position is located in Summit’s Missoula Office.  Remote/hybrid work is not an option.

Personal Care Program Coordinator, Missoula Office

Summit Independent Living is taking applications for Program Coordinator in our Medicaid personal care program. This is a career opportunity for the right person with a solid background in data processing, timesheet review, familiarity with human services, and a passion for assisting people with disabilities. This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, non-exempt position, located in the Missoula office.

JOB SUMMARY: Primary responsibilities of this position include assisting participants and their caregivers to understand the responsibilities of the program, timesheet procedures, and completion of required documentation.

SKILLS REQUIRED: A working knowledge and understanding of time calculation, data processing, excellent communication skills, and possess the skills to work independently in the community but also as a member of the Summit team.

Independent Living Specialist – Kalispell Office

Summit Independent Living is taking applications for the Kalispell Independent Living Specialist position. This is a career opportunity for the right person with a solid background in social work or human services and a passion for working with people of all ages with disabilities. This is a 40 hours per week, non-exempt position.

The Independent Living Specialist is responsible for the provision of advocacy and resource development, peer support, information and referral, skills training, and service coordination for people with disabilities. This position will also serve as a coordinator and mentor for the Kalispell area youth transition services.  Excellent communication skills, ability to develop rapport with youth, to work effectively as a Summit team member and independently in the community are essential for success in this role.
